GOLD MEDAL, SAHARA DESERT, EGYPT, 1989

Walking in the desert near the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, Egypt, I came across a scrap of newspaper. The fragment of text on it — “…wins gold as stars fall” — struck me deeply. I’m not sure how to explain it, but this small trace of humanity, found in a place so far removed from the noise of our civilisation, felt profoundly poetic.

If ordered as a fine art print: printed on premium baryta paper. If ordered mounted and framed: printed on premium baryta paper, mounted on 1 mm aluminium collage and framed in a black US Box profile. Framing adds 3.5 cm to both the height and width.

En marchant dans le désert, près de la Vallée des Rois à Louxor, en Égypte, je suis tombé sur un morceau de journal. Le fragment de texte qu’il portait — « …remporte l’or alors que les étoiles tombent » — m’a profondément touché. Je ne saurais l’expliquer, mais cette petite trace d’humanité, trouvée dans un lieu si éloigné du bruit de notre civilisation, m’a semblé d’une poésie étrange et émouvante.
